During this 5 hour private tour you will discover in detail the three hidden gems of Antoni Gaudí in Barcelona City: Casa Vicens, Palau Güell and Bellesguard. We will visit them in the chronological order in which they were built so you can have a deep understanding of the evolution of this unique architect’s work.
First, we will visit Casa Vicens (1883-1888). Shortly after finishing his architecture studies, the young Gaudí was commissioned by Manuel Vicens to build a summer house for him and his wife on the land he had inherited. The building is imaginative, modern and innovative and for the first time he uses many of the structural, decorative and symbolic elements which came to define his architectural language. In the building you will see many styles that influenced all his works: japonism, islamic art and nature.
Then, if you feel like enjoying a coffee, we will stop in an exclusive Patisserie overlooking this unique building. The drink can be accompanied by a pastry from a well known bakery in Barcelona.
After, we will go to Palau Güell (1886-1888), a construction that represents the zenith of Gaudí’s youthful period. There, your private guide will explain you about the relationship between Gaudí and the bourgeois and mason Eusebi Güell, an entrepreneur who profited greatly from the industrial revolution in Catalonia in the late 19th century. Other works that a result of the relationship between Gaudí and Güell are the Park Güell or the Pavellons of Finca Güell.
Palau Güell was a milestone of European architecture in its time and it may be considered one of the pioneering buildings of the Art Nouveau movement, standing out above all for its innovative conception of space and light. Gaudí applied a set of highly diverse solutions based on very personal approaches, and he created some exceptionally expressive forms like the catenary arches, working with high-quality traditional materials (stone, wood, wrought iron, ceramics, glass,…).
Finally, it will be the time to move to Torre Bellesguard (1900-1909). The Gaudinian building is escorted by a great dragon, the Dragon of Bellesguard, one of its best-kept treasures, and a witness to the passing of time and to change. On the upper part of the roof terraces, Gaudí designed a “sentry walk” around the four façades, with spectacular views of the city of Barcelona, that make the building worthy its name, Bellesguard, which may be translated as “beautiful view”. If during this private tour you feel like having a couple of violonists musicians playing for you in this idillic place, we can arrange it for you at an extra cost.
The site of Bellesguard has a lot of history and it was an important place more than 600 years ago. In 1408 it became a royal and papal residence and for two years it was the main home of King Martin I the Humane from 1396.
After five hours of discovery we can leave you in a nearby restaurant located inside an Art Nouveau building and situated less than a kilometer away from Bellesguard. The place is called Asador de Aranda and we can book a table for you with no extra charge. Alternatively, we can leave you in the city center.
