We will also ask you if you have mobility constraints, children, or any special requirements. We will make our best so you have access to the local places of your interest that you wouldn’t find on your own.

On the day of the tour, we will remain flexible and adjust the itinerary and timings to meet your group’s needs, as every day is unique. Weather conditions may vary, and we are happy to accommodate your preferences for walking or other activities.

Languages – Most of our guests prefer private tours in English. If you require a tour in another language, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Unexpected Changes – Major events, health regulations, and weather conditions may affect the final itinerary of your private experience. Changes in opening hours for specific buildings, ongoing renovations, and guest interests may allow us to include additional sites in your itinerary, such as the Ráth György Villa, the Music Academy, the Geological Institute, the Schiffer Villa, the Róth Miksa Stained Glass Museum, and other noteworthy locations. Please note that the Budapest Museum of Applied Arts is currently undergoing renovations after five years of restoration, and the Bedő House is closed and no longer accessible for visits. We offer flexibility regarding cancellations or date changes, and we will provide detailed information with the quote sent.

Secession is the name for Art Nouveau in Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria and all the areas that until 1914 belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

In Budapest the Art Nouveau movement was more than just an art style because it provided a shared platform for both Christians and Jews to express their Hungarian identity (history and culture) within the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The new style was not accepted by the mainstream and the authorities for a long time but it satisfied the bourgeois Jews’ needs of group identification.

In the last quarter of the 19th century the city of Budapest reached almost a million people and more than doubled its number of buildings. Many of these buildings were built in Secession style, Hungarian Art Nouveau, and one of the main architects involved in these projects was Ödön Lechner, known as the Hungarian Gaudí. Other key architects of that time were Béla Lajta, Aladár Árkay and István Medgyaszay.

The foremost architect associated with this style is Ödön Lechner, and Hungary has submitted five of his masterpieces, including the Museum of Applied Arts, the Royal Postal Savings Bank and the Institute of Geology, for inclusion in Unesco’s World Heritage list.
