Description

Itinerary

On our 8 hour prolonged private tour we’ll take a deep dive into the Art Nouveau Saint-Petersburg, the Russian “Venice of the North”. The city is stretched out and we’ll take a guided car tour to visit it with comfort.

You’ll see how Wiener Secession and National Romantic style were transformed in the Russian architectural jewels, designed on the border of the 19th and 20th centuries. We’ll visit the magnificent Vytebsk train station and explore the area around it, the stunningly beautiful House of Bazhanov.

Afterwards we will head towards the Fabergé Museum, strongly associated with Art Nouveau and with cult objects of Belle Époque, like the Imperial Easter egg Lilies of the Valley jewelry. A private visit to this museum is not included in the basic price of the tour, but you can ask us to book it by clicking on the option below the picture of the Imperial Easter egg.

We highly recommend the visit to the Fabergé Museum with this private tour, but as the museum charges as much as 220€ for a private group visit, it is an extra charge for the tour.

We’ll make a stop at Eliseev’s grocery store with its opulent Art Nouveau decorations both inside and outside and indulge in its delicious food. In this building there is a pleasant coffee shop and restaurant with tables inside and on a street terrace during the summer season. You can decide if you want to have lunch here or in another art nouveau restaurant nearby in the same Nevskiy prospect called L’Europe which also has excellent choices.

If you want us to book the table in any of these two restaurants please select this option when booking our tour (see option below the calendar) which we do at no extra fee. Alternatively, if you are looking for a lower price restaurant, our guide in St Petersburg will be happy to suggest alternative places.

Driving around this part of the city, you’ll also admire the House of Books, the tallest building erected on the main street in 1904.

Saint-Petersburg is a city on islands and historically has a lot of Art Nouveau mansions and tenant houses built away from the city center on the Islands. That’s why from the main land we’ll go across the Neva River to the Petrograd Island, famous as the Art Nouveau centre of St Petersburg.

We’ll make a stop by the elegant Kshesinskiy mansion designed in 1904 by the court architect, Aleksander von Gogen.  The building is playfully asymmetric, with a single octagonal tower. But most eye-catching of all are the many contrasting building materials with bands of pink and grey granite, cream-coloured bricks, delicately ornamented iron railings and majolica tiles. While visiting the Kshesinskiy mansion, we will also admire the nearby Brandt mansion as it is part of the museum.

We will take pictures on a short walking tour of the neighborhood and see art nouveau buildings such as the Lidval House, an absolute masterpiece.

You will also see an Art Nouveau style monument to Russian sailors and a mosque which was built in the beginning of the 20th Century which used tiles made by the same Russian master who made the stunning fireplaces in the House of Bazhanov.

After driving along the Stone island prospect through its cosy and stylish Austrian square our next stop will be at the bank of the little river Karpovka where we’ll admire the wonderful vista of the Big prospect with its Art Nouveau pearls of architecture.

From this point we will bring you back to your hotel or to any central location you need.

Please note that the maximum size of the group is 10 people.
